Luke (Ty) McCarthy is a 6th generation Tuolumne County resident. He started his academic adventures at Columbia College in 2012 and went on to pursue his BA in Environmental Studies from HSU, which he received in May 2018. Ty is continuing his education online, and currently in the process of obtaining his MA in Geography from Marshall University. Ty also minored in Geospatial Sciences and has been consulting as a GIS Analyst in the natural resource/agriculture and utility industries for over 6 years.

Due to spending much of his youth backpacking in the Sierra Nevada and his Natural Resources, Environmental Studies, and Geographic education, Ty is passionate about forest conservation, environmental justice, travelling, and living with sustainability in mind. He attributes much of his success to the love, support, and strong relationships within his family. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar, singing, writing songs, and performing live music. As an avid outdoors person, he also uses his spatial education while hiking, kayaking, climbing, swimming and exploring all the recreational areas the central Sierra's has to offer.
